(ASUU) Suspends Strike, Directs Lecturers to Resume

The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), after a series of meetings, finally reached an agreement yesterday on contending issues, which led to the three months’ industrial action.

As a matter of fact, The strike was called off after a two hour meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige.

Ngige said after the meeting that eight areas of disagreements were discussed and agreed upon by the two parties, while expressing gratitude to ASUU leadership for their understanding.

Also, The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has now directed its members to return to classrooms with immediate effect.

The NEC has decided that the STRIKE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED.

ASUU President Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, however, warned that the union would not hesitate to resume the action, if government failed to meet its own part of the agreement.
