China Eyes YABATECH On Vocational Education. The fore- running of Yaba College of Technology as a provider of technical education in Nigeria reached its crescendo as a Chinese Polytechnic, Guangzhou Panyu, eyes the institution on vocational technical education.
The Chinese Polytechnic in partnership with a Chinese construction company based in Nigeria, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, (CCEC) has the required manpower capacity to provide technical assistance to the College graduates especially in the area of rail and road transportation development.
Economic Relationship Between China and Nigeria
China and Nigeria have a long standing socio- economic relationship. Therefore is expected that CCEC will take advantage of this relationship by keying into Nigeria’s.
Furthermore, Mr Jiahuan who defined the proposed technical assistance as a corporate social responsibility to Nigerians. However, noted that Nigeria’s achievements in the area of technical education were made known through the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
Even more, Through the Railway Corporation, we know that YABATECH, the cradle of higher learning is one of the best institutions in Nigeria. Therefore as a first class polytechnic, we are desirable to cooperate with her in the field of technical and vocational training.
Yaba College of Technology, popularly known as YABATECH, was founded in 1947, and is Nigeria’s first higher educational institution. It is located in Yaba, Lagos. It has a student enrollment of over 16,000. From inception to date Yaba College of Technology has continued to provide enabling environment for the achievement of academic excellence. The lecture rooms and laboratories are well equipped.
Certainly, The two institutions will cooperative and share academic ideas.This academic idea are in this department respectively. Mechanical, civil, architecture and construction engineering technology.
In attendance were the management team of YABATECH led by the Rector, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe who was unavoidably absent, but was represented by the Deputy Rector Academics, Dr. Taye Oyelola, representatives of Guangzhou Panyu Polytechnic led by its Vice President and a representative of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Lagos District Manager, Engr. Jerey Oche.
